This book is intended as course material for the course Structured Programming with C/C++ at university level. It contains eight chapters, one for each lecture of the course. The purpose of the course Structured Programming with C/C++ is primarily to teach how to think programming .

The book approaches problem-solving using a top-down, structured programming method. This method consists of 1) breaking a problem into smaller, more manageable tasks, and 2) using the action block, the decision block, and the loop block—the three fundamental programming structures—to perform each task. It is important to note that when Hoare put the book, Structured Programming, together, it included not only Dijkstra's chapter, but a chapter Hoare wrote on Structured Data and a chapter by Dahl introducing what we now call Object Oriented Programming (all three authors, note, have received a Turing Award). That is, that the book was concerned.
